Word level work for practice
Adequate practice work needs to be incorporated into any structured programme.
Useful
word level work exercises
include wordsearches, circle the real word (omitting nonsense words), crosswords, adding onsets, adding rimes, matching rhymes and, indeed any exercises (in structure with the programme) that encourage students to look closely at words.
Here is a free sample of word level work from a
Read Write Spell
workbook. It may be copied or adapted as required. Copy and paste into a word document and re-size.
Practice work of this kind should be done AFTER you have introduced a new sound / symbol correspondence and BEFORE you tackle
sentence level work
based on the words practised here.
Some students require more practice work than others, so you may need to design further exercises along the same lines.
